Ask ChatGPT about your shop
Connect your WagTab shop to ChatGPT once, then ask in plain words: who’s coming tomorrow, who’s overdue, what you took in. No reports to dig through.
Updated October 26, 2026
The short answer
Copy your shop’s address from Settings → Security & data → Connect your AI assistant, pick ChatGPT, add the address in ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then sign in to WagTab and tap Allow. It needs a paid ChatGPT plan, and only the owner or a manager can connect.
Before you start
Needs a paid ChatGPT plan; the Free plan can’t add it. If you don’t see Add custom MCP server, your plan doesn’t have it. On Business or Enterprise, your ChatGPT admin has to allow it first. On some plans ChatGPT can only look things up, not make changes.
Set it up on chatgpt.com on a computer. You don’t need to turn on developer mode.
Connect in three steps
1. Copy the address
It’s your shop’s web address with /mcp on the end. For a shop at yourshop.wagtab.com, that’s https://yourshop.wagtab.com/mcp. In WagTab, open Settings → Security & data → Connect your AI assistant, pick ChatGPT and tap Copy.
2. Open ChatGPT on a computer
Click +, then Add custom MCP server. Name it WagTab, paste the address, choose OAuth, tick the warning box, and click Create as a plugin. The Open ChatGPT button in WagTab goes straight to ChatGPT’s Plugins page.
3. Sign in to WagTab and tap Allow
ChatGPT opens your shop’s sign-in. The owner and managers can connect. Back in WagTab, step 3 turns green by itself.
If ChatGPT asks you to install the WagTab plugin before using it, do that, then start a new chat. Menus in ChatGPT change from time to time; if a button has a different name, look for “custom MCP server” under Plugins.
Questions to try
- “What does tomorrow look like?”
- “Who hasn’t been in for 8 weeks?”
- “How much did we take in last week, and in tips?”
- “Any booking requests waiting?”
- “Write a text telling Bella’s owner she’s ready for pickup”
- “Raise the large-dog bath to $65”
In WagTab, the same questions sit under Connect your AI assistant once you’re connected. Tap one to copy it.
What ChatGPT can and can’t do
- Changes always ask first. Before ChatGPT books, moves or cancels a visit, or changes a price or your hours, it shows you the change and waits for your yes. ChatGPT also asks you before it runs the change.
- Payments, refunds, deletes and passwords never go through ChatGPT. It can’t take a payment, refund, delete a client or a visit, or see team logins and billing.
- Client phone numbers and emails stay hidden unless the owner turns them on in Connect your AI assistant. Names, dogs and visits are shown.
- Owners and managers only. ChatGPT works as the person who connected it and can do only what they can.
- Disconnect any time. Connect your AI assistant lists every connection, who made it and when it was last used, with a Disconnect button.
Every change made through ChatGPT is in the security log as yours, “via ChatGPT”, and can be undone from there.
If the address shows a page instead
Opening the address in a browser shows a short page with these same steps. That’s expected: the address is for ChatGPT or Claude, not for a browser tab. Paste it into ChatGPT instead.
Use Claude instead? Connect Claude works the same way, and any Claude plan can add it.
ChatGPT questions
Does connecting ChatGPT cost extra?
Not from WagTab: it’s part of the $40 a month. You need your own ChatGPT account on a paid plan.
Do I need developer mode?
No. You add WagTab from ChatGPT’s Plugins page with Add custom MCP server.
ChatGPT answers questions but won’t make changes. Why?
Some ChatGPT plans let a custom MCP server only look things up. Make the change in WagTab yourself, or connect Claude instead.
Can ChatGPT text my clients?
No. It writes the text for you, and you send it from your own phone.
Something isn’t working. Who do I ask?
Email hello@wagtab.com and say which step you’re on. We answer within one business day.
