Moving from another grooming app
Your clients, pets and visits come over from the export your old app gives you. Free, checked twice, and undoable for 30 days.
Get your files out
In WagTab, open Settings, then Bring your data, and pick your old app. It shows where that app keeps its export, step by step.
-
Your client and pet lists
Most grooming apps download them as CSV or Excel. Some give one file with clients and pets together, some give two.
-
Your visits
An appointment report brings past visits and the ones already booked. A long history may need one year at a time.
-
Or one backup file, if your app has one
Some apps give a full backup with clients, dogs, vaccines, visits and the price list in one file. That’s the easiest way over.
-
Add them all at once
Drop every file in together, or a zip of them. WagTab tells which app made them and reads each column for you.
What comes over
- Clients
- Names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, emergency contacts, notes and alerts.
- Pets
- Breed, weight, size, birthday, grooming and medical notes, vet, behavior flags and vaccine dates.
- Past visits
- So the desk can see what each dog had last time.
- Booked visits
- They land on your calendar, matched to your services and groomers.
- Your price list
- Services, add-ons, packages and retail, when the export has them. When it doesn’t, WagTab can make a menu from your visit history, with each service’s usual price and length by size, for you to check.
- Clients you’d have twice
- Look-alike pairs are shown side by side. They stay apart unless you say merge.
What doesn’t come over
Every export leaves something out. Here’s what to expect, so nothing surprises you.
- Balances and credits
- Deposits, package and gift-card balances and store credit aren’t moved. When the file has them, the check lists them by client to type in.
- Cards and payments
- Saved cards and payment history stay in the old app.
- Photos, memberships and repeat rules
- Add photos as dogs come in. Set up memberships and standing appointments again in WagTab.
- Your team
- You add your staff yourself, each with their own login.
- Prices, in some exports
- One app we read leaves prices out, so old visits and a menu made from them come in at $0 for you to fill in.
- Vaccines, in some exports
- One app keeps vaccines only in a PDF report. Those are filled in as dogs come in.
Checked against the old file
Right after saving, and any time later from Past imports, WagTab puts the file beside what it saved.
- Line by line
- Clients, dogs, upcoming and past visits, vaccines, services and retail: the number in the file, the number in WagTab.
- Every difference explained
- Each line says Matches, Explained or Look at this, in plain words. A tap shows which clients or dogs.
- Money the old app keeps
- Balances found in the file, with the clients and totals, to type in before you turn the old app off.
- Worth knowing
- Alerts, behavior flags, medical notes and dogs with no vaccine on file, counted on both sides. WagTab has no do-not-book mark, so it lists those clients for their alert.
Messages wait until you say so
Booked visits that came over are held quiet: no confirmation or reminder emails go out for them. Look over the calendar, then tap “Looks right, turn on messages for these”.
The newest import can be undone for 30 days. Anything you’ve used since, like a client you’ve booked, is kept.
